« on: October 05, 2009, 07:13:42 PM »
Hi all.

All interested in keep Enlightenment/OzOS updated should update now by doing:

If at that point apt asks for keep conf file or install package maintainer's version opt by the maintainer's version (Option I or Y).
Then just update from a fresh svn tree:

Should be all needed.

Notes on updates:
e17-svn:
- e17 installs/updates without issues on dependencies or missing packages
oz-e17-tools
- update to latest base script version (1.2.6)
- management of packages are know simpler and will allow maintainers (Bro.Tiag and me) to keep things tuned easily

oz-e17-tools
- Better management of trunk download, fully synchronized with easy_e17
- Corrected pkgs list
- Can install old revisions, previous to recent changes (like etk move) on svn (based on latest updates of old script by Bro.Tiag)
- Fixings minor code checks.

oz-desktop-base
- cleaned some dependencies
- numlockx it's now on Suggested list only, since it can create annoyances with some netbooks (and laptops with numerical keyboards implemented via Fn key)

Let me know if there are problems.

Rui!  This is great.

Welcome back, old friend.

I tested the updated update_e17.sh on one machine - it reported a problem with exalt-client (requires exalt, which is skipped), but otherwise A1.  Adding exalt-client to easy_e17.conf fixed it for me.

I will do some fresh installs and report back.

Again - great to see you here!

Hi Aubrey,
it's always nice to be here  8)  :-*

Thank you for your so warm welcome my friend!  :)

Yes, that (and another potential chain of dependencies of drawer) scape my tests due to the unfortunate habit i have of not accept updated conf files on updates, so i don't hit those.

I updated already a version corrected.

For reference:
 drawer -> ethumb
 exalt-client -> exalt -> elementary

The first it's not enabled by default but can now be enabled safely because it installs ethumb by default (it will be the new thumb manager of e)

The second, same old questions. It's stable enough? It runs correctly, as a service/daemon, on all distro e17-sn can be installed? and how about elementary that continues on TMP for so long time?... and there's NM and wicd around, so...
(Ofcourse in this case, advanced users can easily change easy_e17.sh to get it)

Let me know if you hit any other issues.
e17 has been quite stable for me in this recent updates. I was using very old ones for months ...

I have now a netbook aspire1, with a very successful OzOS on hit. I'm thinking on do a thread about it and an howto on NM with e (there's one already done? don't remember)

Well, bedtime for me.
Nice to hear from you, Aubrey.
Have a really nice day (south hemisphere guys live upside down!  ;D)

Hey ya Rui,

Always good to see ya round. Thanks for updating the deb's.

I just finished a fresh install of OzOs-e17 on a stock debian-Xfce install. Looks like I hit some of the things already mentioned. I had to use;
Code: [Select]
easy_e17.sh -s -i --skip=drawer,exalt-client,screenshotTo get the install to finish.

Cheers

I tried with the Rui procedure.

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude upgrade
(I replaced the configuration file with the maintainer version.)
sudo rm -rf /var/cache/e17_src
sudo easy_e17.sh -i

And everything works fine.
Thanks!

I have now done a few fresh installs on Ubuntu, Xubuntu and server versions of Karmic (9.10).

All goes well for e17_svn except for screenshot which gives the following error:

Quote
checking for emprint... no
configure: error: emprint not found

I have assumed that emprint is no longer in the packages list for some reason or the screenshot has not been updated to take account of other changes and have completed the install with:

Code: [Select]
sudo easy_e17.sh --only=slideshow,taskbar,tclock,winselector,wlan
which works fine!

BUT - in Ubuntu, the new GDM did not show enlightenment as a session option - RESOLVED by completely uninstalling then reinstalling GDM (using a brick to open a window, I know).

I'm finding Karmic quite difficult to work with, mainly due to some fundamental "improvements" in Grub and GDM.  That may be just my slow brain, but I can't help seeing these as very underdone at the moment.  The new, very simple, Log-in Window gui cannot be "unlocked" in enlightenment and the still hidden gdm conf tool (invoked with "gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties" in gnome) does not work at all in enlightenment.  Customisation (of both grub and gdm) by hand is frustrating due to the sheer number of different config files and their varying locations between Ubuntu, Xubuntu and server versions.

So close to release, I really doubt these issues will be satisfactorily resolved as they don't particularly affect Gnome (or Xfce) users - although the new Grub is going to be a nightmare for new user support.

And Rui! Your avatar has put on a lot of weight!  I hope that's not the case in real life. ;-)

Hi AUbrey. Thanks for you test.
I hadn't time yet to play with karmic... the damn dbus seems to take over all gnome/gtk related things. It's weird and hard to understand syntax and non intuitive nature freaks me out. I always feel i'm returning to registry days of windows :( arghh.

About our e17-svn issues.
The new way of bounded packages, seems to me more and more everyday, a shout in the feet. It's useless now since we can't change them by passing flags to script. And packages from different levels of installation depend on each other, leading to that dependency issues.

For now i uploaded a new version with emprint on basic binaries. that should solve screenshot problems (as long user remove emprint from skip list on easy_e17.conf).
But if another of this annoyance appear i'll try to make thing simpler with only 2 levels usual installation/full-all-things installation.

Good news. Or they may be. Morlenxus have a a new, for test purposes, script version that propose to do ... exactly what my patch version do, only download code that user will compile. :)

I'm hope that Morlenxus solution would be better than my patches i we can cut the extra effort in patch/test all updates. It's great.
I hadn't time yet (usual in me) to even read the script to see how he does the trick! Nor have i tried yet.
(Ah running time... planet rotates too fast, thats the issue... a planet with at least 27h of rotating period would be far better. Oh and coffee, lots of coffee to keep us awake!)

About the weight, no, my friend, quite the opposite. I'm skinner than before.
I loose 2 kgs last year. I would adapt the phrase of jake in the movie, "too much work and no fun make jake-rui a skin boy (where's the axe?)
Anyway i'm a sexy forty with 64Kg to my 1.68m tall :p
And since summer seems to never ends now in Portugal, and with hot time i feed my self almost of fruit and beer and think i'll became even more "light" in next month.
I WANT MY AUTUMN BACK!

Hope all is well with you!

How does this new script work? I removed eg. mpdule from the .conf file, but then it won't install with 'easy_e17.sh --only=mpdule'. How do I add packages, or how do I install packages_full for my part if I can't point to single packages?

Hi VCoolio.
package_full it's some functionality thats Morlenxus introduced on recent versions of easy_e17 script, but that's not fully implemented yet.

The conf file serves only to *block/skip* packages listed for download on easy_e17 script.
To *add* extra files you need to edit easy_e17 by yourself.

You have two ways. either you move the wanted package from a variable list not used by default to a used one, using your example, you could move mpdule from e_modules_extras to e_modules_extra

or[NOT RECOMMENDED] you change the general default level of installation, changing packages=$packages_half    # default -> packages=$packages_full    # default.
Eventually you can add the others on $packages_full that you do not want to easy_e17.conf to save time and compilation effort.

Thank you, that worked fine; easy enough. Mpdule needed libmpd-dev as a dependency. Tomorrow I'll try the python-bindings and shellementary again; I'll have to explore how to add the skipped BINDINGS folder.
A lot of new features in e17 since two months ago btw: the whole settings tree is now in the menu, the 'run everything' module has matured and more stuff I need to explore. Also ecomorph has new things. It's getting better and better :)

Edit: it's still impossible to get shellementary (elementary doesn't want to build this time).
