MaryanLinux

by maty1206 out of Ubuntu 7.10 (after a short daliance with LinuxMint) is a beta release showcasing the Enlightenment (E17) desktop and a range of native Enlightenment applications (generally small apps and utilities built on the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries).  The Ubuntu base provides stability and a wide range of alternative apps.   Along with other recent E17-based offerings like Gebuntu, eLive and OzOs, MaryanLinux is paving the way for some exciting distros and rebuilds.  E17 isn't a beginners desktop and has a reputation for difficult to master and configure.  Even worse, the development process has, in the past, produced wild incompatibility issues with earlier releases.  But all that may be behind us as E17 seems to be approaching the sort of maturity and stabilty many have waited a long time for.  The native Enlightenment applications - such as Estickies, Exhibit, Ephoto, and Eclair - will be new to many users and this will be a chance to see how they perform.  MaryanLinux also includes a fairly complete set of more familiar applications too.  For those who love Enlightenment's elegance and speed, MaryanLinux could be "the one".  The artwork, by Molom, is excellent too.
